Escaped Nawalparasi Prisoner Arrested in Palpa

A prisoner who escaped from Nawalparasi Jail during last month’s Gen-Z protests has been arrested from Palpa, police said.

According to DSP Hom Prakash Chaudhary, spokesperson for the Palpa District Police Office, 28-year-old Shyam Magar, also known as Samir Gurung, a resident of Pokhara Metropolitan City-21, Kaski, was serving time in a drug-related case when he fled the prison on Bhadra 24.

Acting on a tip-off and following continuous surveillance, a police team led by a police sergeant from the Prabhas Police Post apprehended Magar at around 3 a.m. on Sunday.

He was found hiding at his in-laws’ house in Sadikhola, Tansen Municipality-10, near Prabhas. The arrested fugitive has been sent to the Palpa District Jail, police said.

Police added that two other inmates who had escaped earlier have already been rearrested and sent back to prison.
