Jon Rahm and his first important decision for 2025

In a few days it will be one year since one of the most impactful news in the world of golf in recent years: the signing of Jon Rahm for the LIV, the circuit promoted by Saudi Arabia that will enter its fourth season in 2025. The third, individually, was won by the ‘León de Barrika’ thanks to two victories and the great consistency he showed even when he did not show his best version.

However, the Basque golfer was not entirely happy with his season: “I think it has been a good year with two victories and I also won the LIV overall. The downside has been the big ones, because I missed a cut, the Masters was not Well, I missed the US Open and in the British I had no real chance of winning,” Jon said after finishing his participation in the Andalusia Masters, a tournament that he was able to play because he appealed the sanctions that the DP World Tour imposed on him for having played LIV Golf tournaments without having authorized them.

While his case is being resolved, with this the Biscayan gained valuable time to fulfill his obligations as a member of the DPWT and in view of his eligibility for the 2025 Ryder Cup. That is why Jon has now been able to announce that his season It will begin precisely in a tournament once known as the European Circuit. ‘Rahmbo’ will play in the Dubai Desert Classic, one of the highlight tournaments on the DPWT calendar, which this year takes place from January 16 to 19.

“It’s a tournament I’ve heard a lot about and I’m looking forward to making my debut at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January. I’ve had a lot of success in Dubai in the past, so it’s a place that brings back some great memories for me and it will be great to go back there.” , declared the Biscayan player through a statement. As indicated, he already left this country triumphant when he won the DPWT Tour Championship there in 2017, 2019 and 2022.

This, in reality, is great news because in 2024 Rahm could not compete until February and before the Masters he had only played five tournaments, when in 2023 he arrived at Augusta with eight, three of them played in the month of January. Things did not go well for Jon in the defense of the green jacket. He came with the pressure not only of being the champion, but also as the big star of the rival PGA Tour circuit. However, perhaps what weighed most that week was that the ‘León de Barrika’ had just faced an unusual schedule for him.

Next year, not only will you be adapted to the competitive format of the LIV and its long trips, but you can organize your calendar in another way knowing that for the moment you can alternate with a DPWT tournament as long as it is compatible. It should be noted that the 2025 campaign at LIV begins on February 6 in Riady, and there are already four events confirmed before the Masters, and there will be a fifth that has not yet been assigned. What seems clear is that the Spanish golfer does not want the preseason of the upcoming season to be so extended and the idea is to arrive more ready for the first big event of the course.
