Eugenio López-Chacarra is getting closer to playing the second ‘big’ of the year, the PGA Championship, which this year is played in the Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club of North Carolina, from May 15 to 18. The Madrid golfer is seventh, three blows from the leaders, after the third day of the Hainan Classic (China), corresponding to the DP World Tour.
López-Chacarra is second, after the Japanese Keita Nakajima, of the Asian Swing, a ranking that grants three places for the PGA Championship adding the results of the four tournaments of the Asian tour of the old European circuit.
It should be remembered that the former Liv Golf member won on March 30 at the Hero Indian Open and last weekend he ended fourth at the Volvo China Open, so he accumulates a large number of points in the Asian Swing.
To this is now added its great performance in the Hainan classic -it is already 13 turns under par in the 15 that has been in the DP World Tour this season -so its presence in the second ‘major’ of the season except catastrophe is assured. This would be his second participation in one of the four ‘greats’ after debuting in the US Open of 2024, a tournament in which the cut did not pass.
After five Birdies and a single Bogey, the 25 -year -old from Madrid, concluded his today’s journey with 68 blows (for a total of 207), which places him tied to the Norwegian Kristoffer rename three blows from the leaders, the Chinese Xiao Bowen and the English Marco Penge.
Both signed a 65 -stroke card but with two very different laps. Bowen stood in the first position after doing seven birdies while Penge was much more irregular because he signed five Birdies, a Double Bogey, in the sixth hole, and two Eagle, in the tenth and twelfth hole, respectively.
Of the rest of the Spaniards, Joel Moscatel is viguable, after a 68 impact card (-4) and Jorge Campillo the 38th, sharing a position with seven other golfers. Meanwhile, Rafa Cabrera Bello and Pablo Larrazábal coincide in position 46.
