United’s emotional tribute to Law, with Ferguson at the helm

Manchester United paid tribute this afternoon to Denis Law after the recent death of the historic icon of Old Trafford.

The death of the former Scottish striker was on Friday. He was 84 years old and had been diagnosed with dementia in 2021. Today, at the stadium and before the match, flowers, scarves and other tributes were laid outside the United stadium in front of a statue commemorating Law, Bobby Charlton and George Best (the called the club’s Holy Trinity) before the Premier League match against Brighton.

Law's former teammates Paddy Crerand, Alex Stepney, Brian Kidd and Alex Ferguson.

Before the start, a piper played the famous ‘A Flower of Scotland’ in tribute. Former United manager Alex Ferguson laid a wreath in midfield and was accompanied by Law’s former teammates Paddy Crerand, Alex Stepney and Brian Kidd.

Law scored 237 goals in 404 appearances for United. He was the only Scottish player to win the Ballon d’Or. “He was the best Scottish player of all time,” Ferguson told MUTV.

Finally, United fans broke into song in their tribute, singing “We’ll Never Die,” which is a tribute to members of the club’s 1958 team, many of whom died in a plane crash in Munich.
