Protest Targets UML Leader Mahesh Basnet in Surkhet

A group of youths demonstrated against CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet in Birendranagar, Surkhet, on Tuesday morning. The protest began shortly after leader Basnet arrived at the airport around 9 a.m. to participate in an awareness campaign organized by the party’s youth wing, the National Youth Federation (NYF).

The demonstrators chanted slogans targeting the leader. Mr. Basnet, along with UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, NYF President Khitiz Thebe, and other leaders, traveled to Surkhet to address the NYF program being held at the District Coordination Committee (DCC) hall.

While the NYF event proceeded inside the DCC hall, the protest continued outside, near the Birendranagar Municipality office. The UML had also gathered a large number of its own youth supporters in the area, leading the local administration to deploy a significant number of security personnel to maintain order.
