67 Parties Apply for Proportional Representation Election

A total of 67 political parties have applied to take part in the proportional representation (PR) system for the upcoming election. Today is the last day to submit the application.

The election for the House of Representatives will take place on 21 Falgun. According to the election schedule, parties wishing to contest under the proportional system must submit their application between 21 Mangsir and today.

On the first day, 33 parties applied, and on the second day, 34 parties submitted their applications. Any additional parties applying today will also be able to contest in the proportional category in the 21 Falgun election.

The Election Commission will review all applications and approve them by 26 Mangsir.

Parties must submit their closed list of proportional candidates on 13 and 14 Poush.
The preliminary list of candidates will be published on 4 Magh. After hearing complaints and objections, the final closed list will be published on 20 Magh.

The House of Representatives has a total of 275 seats, elected through two systems:

  • 165 members through direct election (first-past-the-post)
  • 110 members through proportional representation

For the direct election, the nomination registration will take place on 6 Magh.
