Thirty-five Sheep Found Dead in Humla Pastures

Thirty-five sheep belonging to local farmers were found dead on Friday in the Lamasaina forest area of Tajakot Rural Municipality-1, Humla District. The incident has caused significant financial losses to the agricultural community in the remote Himalayan region.

Local resident Birbal Khadka reported that the livestock were grazing in the high-altitude pastures of Kadagaon when they succumbed. Among the affected owners is local farmer CP Rithal, who lost a substantial portion of his flock in the incident.

While the exact cause of death has not yet been professionally verified by veterinary authorities, local residents suspect the animals may have consumed toxic vegetation. The sheep were reportedly healthy prior to entering the Lamasaina forest area.

The loss represents a major economic blow to the owners, as livestock farming serves as a primary source of income in this region. Mr. Rithal stated that the value of the lost sheep amounts to hundreds of thousands of rupees.

District authorities are expected to be notified to determine if a formal investigation or post-mortem examination is required. The incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by nomadic herders operating in the high-altitude grazing lands of western Nepal.
