Woman dies in Sindhuli Housefire identified as Sushila Bamjan

A fatal fire broke out Sunday afternoon in a residence located in Kamalamai Municipality-6, Dhuraphant, resulting in one death and one injury. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the kitchen of a two-and-a-half-story concrete house owned by Durgaman Bamjan. Local authorities arrived on the scene shortly after receiving reports from residents to manage the situation and begin an investigation.

The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Sushila Bamjan, the daughter-in-law of the homeowner. According to Superintendent of Police Lal Dhwoj Subedi, head of the District Police Office in Sindhuli, the fire spread with such intensity that she could not be rescued from the kitchen in time. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Durgaman Bamjan, 62, sustained moderate injuries while attempting to manage the blaze. Medical reports indicate he suffered burns to his right hand, right leg, and back. After receiving primary care at Sindhuli Hospital, he was referred to a medical facility in Kathmandu for specialized treatment. Hospital staff confirmed he is currently in stable condition and able to communicate.

Preliminary findings from the District Police Office suggest the fire may have been ignited by flammable substances such as kerosene or petrol used within the kitchen. Investigators noted that the confined space of the kitchen and the presence of these materials likely contributed to the rapid escalation of the flames. A team of 15 police personnel led by Superintendent Subedi conducted the initial on-site assessment.

Following the tragedy, law enforcement officials have issued a public safety advisory regarding the storage and handling of combustible materials. Authorities emphasized that even minor negligence with substances like petrol or kerosene in domestic settings can lead to significant loss of life and property.

The District Police Office has stated that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire. Further details are expected to be released to the public once the official forensic report is finalized.
