Update: Seven Injured in Buddha Air Plane Crash at Bhadrapur Airport

Seven people, including one crew member, were injured in a Buddha Air plane crash at Bhadrapur Airport on Friday night. The incident occurred at around 9:10 pm during landing.

The aircraft, an ATR 72 operated by Buddha Air with call sign 901, was flying from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur. According to initial information provided by Jhapa District Police Office Superintendent Rajan Limbu, the plane overran the runway by about 300 meters toward the eastern side while landing. The aircraft then slipped into grassy bushes and soft soil, resulting in the crash.

There were 51 passengers, four crew members, and one aircraft engineer on board at the time of the incident. Among them, co-pilot 24-year-old Sushant Shrestha of Lalitpur-4 and six passengers sustained injuries.

The injured passengers have been identified as 40-year-old Sabin Jogi of Bhadrapur-10, 20-year-old Preshika Adhikari of Birtamode-7, 42-year-old Sumitra Jogi of Birtamode-1, 28-year-old Kamal Prasad Katuwal of Damak-1, 40-year-old Muna Ghatani of Kathmandu-16, and 16-year-old Priya Ghatani of Kathmandu-16.

All injured persons were immediately rescued by Nepal Police and taken to Omsai Pathibhara Hospital in Bhadrapur for treatment. Police Superintendent Limbu said that co-pilot Shrestha, who suffered injuries to his head and face, is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. The other six injured passengers received general treatment and have already been discharged.

The aircraft had departed Kathmandu at 8:23 pm and met with the accident while landing at Bhadrapur Airport at 9:10 pm.

Soon after the crash, a rescue team of 70 police personnel led by Superintendent Rajan Limbu was deployed from the Jhapa District Police Office. The police safely evacuated all passengers from the aircraft and transported the injured to the hospital.

Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
