Suryabinayak Municipality Announces Rs 2.26 Billion Budget for Fiscal Year 2083/84

Suryabinayak Municipality in Bhaktapur has unveiled a budget of Rs 2.26 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84.

Deputy Mayor Sarita Timsina Bhattarai presented the budget on Wednesday during the municipality’s 20th Municipal Assembly session.

Of the total budget, Rs 1.29 billion, or 57.14 percent, has been allocated for capital expenditure and development projects, while Rs 968.5 million, representing 42.85 percent, has been earmarked for recurrent expenses.

The municipality expects to receive Rs 690 million from the federal government through fiscal equalization grants, revenue sharing, matching grants, and conditional grants. It is also projected to receive Rs 596 million from the provincial government through equalization grants, revenue sharing, matching grants, conditional grants, and special grants.

In addition, the municipality has estimated internal revenue of approximately Rs 973.8 million for the upcoming fiscal year.

According to municipal officials, the budget prioritizes economic development, social development, infrastructure expansion, environmental conservation, forestry, and disaster management with the aim of accelerating overall urban development.

The municipality has identified several key objectives for the coming year, including ensuring quality school education, promoting technical and vocational education, increasing production and productivity, generating employment opportunities, and developing reliable, secure, and efficient information systems.

For the next fiscal year, Suryabinayak Municipality has established five major priorities. These include expanding urban infrastructure, improving quality standards and city beautification, strengthening and expanding basic healthcare services, enhancing educational infrastructure and quality in community schools, promoting entrepreneurship and employment generation, and advancing institutional good governance through the wider use of information technology.

The municipality has also highlighted several transformative sectors, including the strengthening of health, education, and drinking water services; the promotion of entrepreneurship and self-employment; tourism development and utilization of local economic potential; sustainable and planned urban infrastructure development; and the expansion of modern information systems.

Municipal officials expressed confidence that the budget will help improve public services, support economic growth, and contribute to the long-term development of Suryabinayak.
