Preparations Complete for 26th Budhasubba Gold Cup

All preparations have been completed for the 26th edition of the International Invitational Budhasubba Gold Cup Football Tournament.

The organizer, Dharan Football Club, announced the completion of preparations during a press conference held on Tuesday. The tournament will be held at the Dharan Stadium from Thursday until Falgun 2.

For the first time, 10 teams will participate in the competition. The opening match will be played between host Dharan Football Club and guest team Georgian Football Club of India.

According to club president Pratap Tamang, participating teams from India, along with Bhutan’s Royal Thimphu Football FC, are scheduled to arrive in Dharan on Wednesday.

The winning team will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 million, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs 500,000. Both prize amounts have been provided by Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City.

The organizers stated that although the election code of conduct is currently in force, the administration has granted permission to hold the tournament under certain conditions. The District Administration Office has prohibited House of Representatives election candidates from making speeches or campaigning for votes at the stadium during the tournament period.

The organizers have pledged to fully comply with the election code of conduct while conducting the competition.

Launched in 1998 (2055 BS), the International Invitational Budhasubba Gold Cup is regarded as one of Nepal’s most prestigious football tournaments. However, for host Dharan Football Club, the title has long remained elusive. Despite reaching the final five times, the club has never won the championship on home soil.

Club President Tamang said the team has made rigorous preparations this year with the goal of finally lifting the trophy. As the 26th edition of the Budhasubba Gold Cup approaches, he noted that excitement surrounding the tournament has intensified, and preparations are being carried out accordingly.
