Jill Biden’s ex-husband charged with murder in Delaware

William Stevenson, the former husband of former first lady Jill Biden, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his current wife at their Delaware home, local authorities said Tuesday. Stevenson, 77, was taken into custody on Monday and remains in jail after failing to post $500,000 cash bail.

Stevenson was married to Jill Biden from 1970 until their divorce in 1975. Jill Biden later married Joe Biden in 1977, who went on to become president of the United States.

The murder charge stems from the death of 64-year-old Linda Stevenson, who was found unresponsive in the living room of the couple’s home in Wilmington on December 28. Police said they responded to the residence shortly after 11:00 p.m. following a report of a domestic dispute.

Officers attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but Linda Stevenson was pronounced dead. Authorities have not disclosed the cause of death or released further details about the circumstances leading to her death, citing the ongoing investigation.

According to police, the case was the result of a weeks-long investigation that led to a grand jury indictment. It was not immediately known whether Stevenson had entered a plea or retained legal counsel.

Linda Stevenson was remembered by family and friends as deeply devoted to her loved ones, particularly her daughter and granddaughter. She was described as someone who valued family time and enjoyed creating memories through travel. She was also known as a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and operated a bookkeeping business.

Her obituary described her as tenacious, kind-hearted, and fiercely loyal, noting that her strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and friends left a lasting impact on those who knew her.

Authorities said further information would be released as the legal process moves forward.
