13 killed in wedding bus accident in Baitadi

A bus carrying a wedding party crashed in Baitadi district, killing 13 people and injuring 34 others, police said.

The accident occurred late at night at the Badgaon turn in Purchaudi Municipality–7 while the bus was returning from Bhauni after dropping off the wedding procession.

Inspector Baldev Badu, information officer at the District Police Office in Baitadi, confirmed that 13 people died in the crash.

According to police, 25 of the injured are receiving treatment in Dadeldhura, while four others are being treated in Deulek, Bajhang. Five critically injured passengers have been referred to Dhangadhi for further medical care.

Police said the bus driver, Birendra Budha, has been taken into custody and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

The bride and groom were travelling in a separate vehicle and are reported to be safe.
