SEE Exams Begin Nationwide; Results Expected Within a Month

The Secondary Education Examination (SEE) is set to begin nationwide on Thursday. Answer sheet evaluation will also start from the same day, with preparations underway to publish the results by the end of Baisakh (mid-May).

A total of 512,421 students are appearing in the SEE this year. According to Examination Controller Tukaraj Adhikari, the examinees include 257,613 girls, 254,801 boys, and 7 students from other categories. Exams will be conducted across 1,966 centers, including 23 students appearing from Everest School in Japan.

Authorities have given respective units the flexibility to decide whether answer sheets will be checked at exam centers or transported to designated units. However, Adhikari stated that answer sheets will primarily be evaluated at the exam centers themselves, starting from Thursday. Around 73,500 personnel, including center heads, assistant heads, invigilators, helpers, and security staff, will be deployed for the examinations.

Education Secretary Chudamani Paudel said the National Examination Board has decided that answer sheets of completed subjects should be evaluated within three days at the respective exam centers. If evaluation at the center is not feasible, answer sheets can be sent the same day to the district-level Education Development and Coordination Unit for checking.

Paudel emphasized that all evaluations must be completed within the given timeframe and marks must be submitted to the board promptly. After verification and entry of scores, the results will be published within a month. “The SEE results will be made public by the end of Baisakh,” he said.

Previously, answer sheets were collected and evaluated across districts and provinces without disclosing where specific papers were checked, often delaying results by over two and a half months. This year, following instructions from Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel to publish results within a month, the board has implemented on-site evaluation at exam centers.

Special arrangements have been made to assist students with disabilities, postpartum mothers, and those observing mourning rituals. The SEE will conclude on Chaitra 29.

As per the schedule published on Magh 7, the first exam will be Compulsory English, followed by Compulsory Nepali on Chaitra 20, Compulsory Mathematics on Chaitra 22, Science and Technology on Chaitra 23, Social Studies on Chaitra 24, and optional first and second papers on Chaitra 25 and 26 respectively. Technical stream subjects will be held on Chaitra 27, 28, and 29.

Both regular and grade improvement students will follow the same schedule. Exams will run daily from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The use of mobile phones, smartwatches, or any Bluetooth-enabled electronic devices inside exam halls is strictly prohibited.

Although SEE exams are usually held in early Chaitra as per the board’s calendar, this year’s schedule was postponed due to the House of Representatives elections held on Falgun 21.

Additionally, the government has banned preparatory classes and bridge courses conducted for Grade 11 entrance exams after SEE. Education Minister Pokharel said the decision was made to reduce psychological pressure on students caused by delays in results and admission processes, and to ensure timely publication of results.
