Indefinite Curfew Imposed in Birgunj After Community Clash

An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Birgunj, Parsa, following escalating tensions between two communities.

The District Administration Office, Parsa, said the curfew was enforced in view of the deteriorating security situation. The order came into effect from 9:45 am on Monday and will remain in place until further notice. The curfew applies throughout Birgunj Metropolitan City.

During the curfew period, movement, public gatherings, rallies, demonstrations, meetings, and sit-ins have been strictly prohibited.

The tension began on Sunday night in the Shripur area of Birgunj after a minor dispute over vehicle parking escalated into a clash between two communities. Around half a dozen people sustained minor injuries in the incident. One individual was taken into custody the same night, according to Parsa Police spokesperson DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet.

Although security personnel managed to bring the situation under control overnight, fresh tension flared again in the Shripur area on Monday morning, prompting the administration to impose the curfew.
