Dengue and Scrub Typhus Cases Decrease as Winter Begins

As winter starts, the number of patients infected with dengue and scrub typhus has been decreasing in district hospitals. Compared to last year, cases of both diseases have gone down in Mangsir.

According to the Public Health Office, 113 dengue cases were reported in Mangsir last year, but only 12 cases have been found this year. Office chief Nirmal Ghimire said that 5,923 samples have been tested so far in the current fiscal year, and 174 people have been confirmed with dengue.

By Mangsir last year, 1,463 people had been infected with dengue. During the entire last fiscal year, 17,353 people were tested, and one death was reported.

Last year, dengue cases in the district were 160 in Shrawan, 349 in Bhadra, 487 in Ashoj, 334 in Kartik, and 113 in Mangsir. This year, the numbers dropped to 42 in Shrawan, 44 in Bhadra, 29 in Ashoj, 47 in Kartik, and 12 in Mangsir.

Health officials said dengue infections are lower in Chitwan this year compared to last year. They added that dengue cases usually continue to decrease once Poush begins.

Dengue is mostly seen in urban areas and spreads through the bite of the female Aedes mosquito. Officials said more study is needed to understand the dengue virus type and how it develops.
