Dog Chased Away in Bharatpur Finds a New Home in the United States

A street dog that was chased away from a hotel in Bharatpur has ended up starting a new life in the United States.

One day, a stray dog wandered into Hotel Global at Chaubiskothi in Bharatpur. As the dog approached a group of foreign tourists staying at the hotel, a security guard attempted to chase it away and beat it. However, that single act ended up changing the dog’s life forever.

The incident took place in June, when 50-year-old American citizen Chanda Renee Gregor and her 16-year-old daughter Madison were visiting Chitwan. The guard reportedly tried to chase the dog away out of concern that it might disturb the foreign guests. When the dog ran off, the tourists asked hotel staff to look for it. After finding the dog, they began to pet and care for it, and soon developed a deep bond with the animal.

Their affection for the dog grew so strong that they decided not just to play with it, but to take it with them to the United States. They learned about the required procedures and made a firm decision to adopt the dog.

Before returning home after their two-week stay, they arranged for the dog’s care by paying NPR 20,000 per month to a caretaker. The dog was kept under veterinary supervision, received regular health checkups and vaccinations, and was granted “fit-to-fly” approval by the Government of Nepal. A pet passport was then issued.

On Sunday, the dog was flown to Colorado, USA, via Qatar Airways. Nearly USD 10,000 was spent to complete all legal and logistical procedures. The dog was transported in a high-quality crate and taken from Chitwan to the airport in a reserved vehicle.

After arriving in the United States, the dog was kept in quarantine for two days and allowed outside only after a health examination. The dog has been named “Bali.”

Vinod Dhakal, Vice-Chairperson of Chitwan Manav Sewa Ashram, said the tourists showed genuine compassion toward animals. “They stayed in constant contact even after leaving, showing concern and care for the dog. They completed every process and took a dog that was once abandoned on the streets. It was love for animals that brought the dog to America,” he said.

Hotel Global Managing Director Yuvraj Neupane said the dog began visiting the hotel regularly after receiving affection from the tourists. “Their bond became so strong that even we were surprised when they decided to take the dog to America,” he added.
