Facebook and Messenger experienced a widespread global outage on Friday evening, affecting millions of users across major countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, and India, with disruptions beginning at around 7:30 PM Nepal Time.

Users in multiple regions reported being automatically logged out of their accounts, while others were unable to access feeds, send messages, or load conversations. The outage affected both the Facebook and Messenger mobile applications as well as desktop versions.

Across Facebook, users reported blank news feeds, login failures, and repeated error messages when attempting to refresh content. On Messenger, users said messages were not delivering, chats were failing to load, and in many cases the app was completely inaccessible.

Reports from tier-1 countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Australia, and Japan indicated that the disruption was not limited to one region, suggesting a global-scale technical issue affecting Meta’s core infrastructure.

Many users turned to other platforms to confirm the outage, with complaints rapidly spreading online. Some users also reported repeated login prompts and unexpected session expirations, indicating possible issues with Meta’s authentication systems.

At the time of publication, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Messenger, had not released an official explanation for the outage. The company is expected to investigate whether the disruption is linked to server failures, backend system errors, or authentication service issues.

Facebook and Messenger remain two of the most widely used communication platforms globally, serving billions of users for personal messaging, business communication, and social networking. Even short outages can significantly impact global digital communication.

Niriv observed a sharp rise in user reports at approximately 7:30 PM Nepal Time, with the issue continuing to affect users across multiple continents.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
