Fatal Bus Accident Kills 11 Lives in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu

A head-on collision between two government-operated buses in the Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday resulted in the deaths of 11 passengers and caused injuries to approximately 40 others. The devastating accident occurred near Thirupathur when the two state-run vehicles, traveling in opposite directions, crashed with considerable force, leading to immediate fatalities and trapping numerous commuters.

Local residents were the first responders, assisting with the initial rescue efforts before police and fire services teams arrived to manage the scene. The injured were swiftly transported by ambulance to government medical facilities in Sivaganga, Karaikudi, and Thirupathur for emergency treatment, with reports indicating several patients remain in critical condition. The death toll was officially confirmed at 11 after rescue operations concluded, having initially been reported lower.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and grief over the loss of life. He announced a solatium of ₹3 lakh for the families of the deceased and compensation for the injured, while instructing officials to ensure high-quality medical care for all affected individuals.

Police have commenced a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the collision, with preliminary findings suggesting that high speed on the road stretch may have been a contributing factor. The incident has once again highlighted critical concerns regarding highway safety and transport regulation in the state.
