Fire Destroys Four Homes in Taplejung Market

Four houses have been destroyed by a fire in the Temba Bazaar of Taplejung.

The fire occurred late last night in Temba Bazaar, located in Mikwakhola Rural Municipality-4. The homes belonging to Indrakumar Sawa, Rajkumar Sawa, Anil Sawa, and Bishnu Sawa were burned down.

The four houses, along with all stored supplies including food grains, were destroyed. The Rural Municipality’s acting chairperson, Salina Baraili, stated that the preliminary estimate of the damage is about one crore rupees. The District Police Office, however, said that they are still collecting the full details of the loss.

According to local residents, the fire started with a motorcycle. While trying to push the burning motorcycle into a drain, the fire spread to the houses. Acting chairperson Baraili noted that the lack of a fire engine made it difficult to extinguish the blaze. “We don’t have a fire engine, and it is hard to put out fires using only local resources,” she said.

This incident follows a major fire in February 2021 when 49 houses were burned down in Taplejung’s Dobhan Bazaar.
