Major Fire Engulfs Jute Mill in Sunsari’s Duhabi

A substantial fire broke out at a jute mill in Sonapur, Duhabi Municipality-8, Sunsari District, on the evening of Saturday, November 22, 2025. The blaze, which started at approximately 4:35 PM at the facility operated by Raj Kumar Golchha, has yet to be contained due to the highly flammable nature of the materials inside.

District Police Office spokesperson, Chandra Khadka, confirmed that the fire spread rapidly throughout the interior of the mill. The presence of large quantities of thread and other easily combustible materials has presented significant challenges to firefighting efforts.

The full extent of the property damage caused by the fire is currently impossible to determine. To combat the massive inferno, a combined team of security personnel, including 15 to 20 officers from the Sunsari District Police Office, has been mobilized.

A total of eight fire engines were dispatched from multiple surrounding areas, including Biratnagar, Duhabi, Dewanganj, Ramdhuni, Sundarharaicha, Barahakshetra, and Dharan. Spokesperson Khadka stated that the joint operation by security forces and the fire services is ongoing in an effort to bring the fire under control.
