Free Wi-Fi Now Available in Ratna Park

People in Kathmandu can now sit in the sun and use free internet at Ratna Park. The area, once known for its crowded footpaths, has been improved and now has free Wi-Fi service.

The Greenery Promotion Project of Kathmandu Metropolitan City is installing free Wi-Fi in Ratna Park using six routers provided by Nepal Telecom. Technicians say that by the end of this month, free internet will be available across the entire park.

They are installing 500 Mbps internet so visitors can enjoy free Wi-Fi while relaxing in the park.

Ratna Park was rebuilt and organized by Kathmandu Metropolitan City in 2072/73 with a budget of about 8 million rupees. After the renovation, the park became cleaner and more attractive, and more people started visiting.

Today, elderly people come to sit in the sun, young people come to take photos, and families come to enjoy their time. The park is also known as Shankhadhar Park.

To enter Ratna Park, students must pay 20 rupees, the general public 30 rupees, and SAARC nationals or other foreign tourists 100 rupees. Additional charges apply for bringing cameras, shooting music videos, taking wedding photos, or doing professional photography. The city earns 5 million to 10 million rupees yearly from the park.

According to park officials, 61,537 people visited the park from Shrawan to Kartik this year. Among them, 12,850 were students. Senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and single women can enter for free.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City collected around 1.8 million rupees in revenue during these four months.

Currently, about 500 to 1,000 people visit Ratna Park daily, with even more visitors on holidays. People come to relax, talk, play, take photos, and spend time together.

The park has seating areas, public toilets, and statues of Shankhadhar, Padmaratna Tuladhar, and others. However, there is still a shortage of water, so the park has to bring water by tanker to maintain the plants. The park plans to install a water fountain soon.
