Kamalpokhari Agreement: Balen for PM Now, Rabi Next

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane and Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah have reportedly reached a preliminary understanding to collaborate in the upcoming general elections. Sources close to the leadership indicate that the agreement includes a power-sharing arrangement aimed at positioning both leaders for future national roles.

The discussions took place during a marathon seven-hour meeting held Monday night at a facility in Kamalpokhari. The two leaders initially met with advisors before holding a private session lasting several hours. Following the conclusion of the talks, they were observed departing the venue in the same vehicle.

A key component of the reported consensus involves Lamichhane supporting Shah as a prospective candidate for Prime Minister in the next House of Representatives election. In exchange, the understanding suggests that Shah would support Lamichhane’s leadership and political aspirations in the subsequent electoral cycle.

Reports indicate that Mayor Shah may be open to utilizing the RSP election symbol, though discussions regarding the formal name of a unified political entity remain ongoing. This development follows Lamichhane’s recent public statements expressing his willingness to step aside from certain roles if it ensures national progress.

The meeting also touched upon the broader goal of consolidating alternative political movements and youth-led initiatives. Leaders involved in organizing the talk described the event as a significant breakthrough that addresses public demand for unity among new political forces. Further high-level discussions are expected to take place in the coming days to finalize the partnership details.
