Nepali Congress Mourns Death of Senior Leader Homanath Dahal

The Nepali Congress has expressed deep sorrow over the death of senior leader and former central member Homanath Dahal. The party’s Central Working Committee passed a condolence resolution during an emergency meeting held on Saturday, chaired by Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka.

Dahal, 84, passed away on Friday in Kathmandu. The committee described his death as an irreplaceable loss for the party.

He was a former president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, editor and publisher of Rastrapukar Weekly, and former chairperson of the Gorkhapatra Corporation.

During the democratic movement, Dahal was jailed several times. In the 2056 BS general elections, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Okhaldhunga–1 and later served as Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives.

The party remembered Dahal for his leadership in building the organization and his key role in the democratic movement. The Central Working Committee said his death is a loss of a senior, experienced, and committed leader.

To honor him, the party has announced a three-day mourning period from Poush 26 to 28. During this time, party flags at central, provincial, and district offices will be flown at half-mast, and all party offices will be closed on Poush 27.

A condolence book will be kept in all offices for 13 days, and a memorial meeting will be held in Okhaldhunga on the 13th day.
