One Killed, Four Injured in Tractor Accident in Jhapa

One person was killed and four others were injured when a tractor met with an accident on the inner road section of Chandukholaa in Gauradaha Municipality–5 of Jhapa district on Friday night.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 10:30 pm when an empty tractor (Me 1 Ta 7108), traveling from Balubathan towards Fakitip village, went out of control and crashed. In the accident, 35-year-old Mahamat Majim of Gauradaha Municipality–7, who was riding on the tractor, sustained critical injuries.

He was rushed to Damak Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead. The body has been kept at the same hospital.

Four others were injured in the accident. The injured have been identified as 49-year-old Satya Narayan Rajbanshi of Gauradaha–7, 23-year-old Sanjit Rishidev, 23-year-old Abhijul Miya, and 34-year-old Kelu Miya, also of Gauradaha–7.

Police said Satya Narayan Rajbanshi suffered minor injuries to his left leg, while Sanjit Rishidev sustained injuries to various parts of his body. Abhijul Miya sustained an injury to his left leg and is in stable condition. Kelu Miya suffered a chest injury but is conscious and in normal condition. All the injured are receiving treatment at Damak Hospital.

Police said the tractor driver, 38-year-old Yam Prasad Rajbanshi of Gauradaha–7, fled the scene after the accident. A search is underway to locate the absconding driver, and further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
