RSP and Mayor Balen Shah Sign Unity Agreement

An agreement has been reached to merge the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the movement led by Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah. A 7-point consensus was signed between the two parties a short while ago.

According to the agreement, Rabi Lamichhane will continue to lead the Rastriya Swatantra Party, while Balen Shah has been proposed as the future Prime Minister. The agreement was officially signed by RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane and Balen Shah.

The 7-Point Agreement Details:

  1. Commitment to Justice: To take ownership of the movements led by the youth against corruption and misgovernance, and to properly address the demands of the injured and the families of martyrs.
  2. Economic Roadmap: To dedicate efforts toward deep policy, institutional, and structural reforms for national prosperity and social justice. The goal is to establish a foundation for cultured political practice and transform Nepal into a respectable middle-income nation within the next decade.
  3. Party Identity: Following the grand unity between the first and second parties, the political party will be named Rastriya Swatantra Party. The flag will remain a blue background with a blue bell inside a white circle at the center. The election symbol will be the “Bell” (Ghanti), and the central office will be located in the Kathmandu Valley.
  4. Leadership & Prime Ministership: Rabi Lamichhane will serve as the Central Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. Following the upcoming House of Representatives election, Balendra Shah will be the Parliamentary Party Leader and the candidate for the future Prime Minister.
  5. Organizational Structure: To make the party structure more capable and inclusive after the unity, young activists and experienced experts will be integrated. Responsibilities will be assigned based on merit, inclusivity, and public image.
  6. Legal Updates: To update the documents of the Rastriya Swatantra Party at the Election Commission in accordance with this agreement.
  7. Call for Alliance: To invite other cultured and progressive alternative political forces, groups, and individuals to unite under the RSP’s principles, leadership, and “Bell” election symbol to advance the issues of democratic governance, prosperity, and social justice.
