Singer and Actor Prashant Tamang Laid to Rest in Darjeeling

Singer and actor Prashant Tamang was laid to rest on Monday in his birthplace, Darjeeling. His last rites were performed at Alubari, near his native village of Tallo Tumsung.

According to his close friend and fellow artist Rajesh Ghatani, Tamang’s funeral was conducted in accordance with Buddhist traditions. He said that Buddhist lamas carried out the cremation and completed the rites following traditional rituals.

Prashant’s wife, Martha Aley Tamang, along with family members and Buddhist lamas, were present at the funeral. Prior to the cremation, his body had been kept in Darjeeling for the public to pay their final respects.

Prashant Tamang passed away on Sunday in New Delhi due to a heart attack. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, among others, have expressed their condolences over his demise.
