Singer and actor Prashant Tamang passes away

Singer and actor Prashant Tamang has passed away. According to his close associate and filmmaker Rajesh Ghatani, Tamang died today at his own residence in Delhi.

“He passed away this morning at his apartment in Delhi,” Ghatani told Onlinekhabar, adding that the cause of death was a heart attack.

Prashant Tamang, who won Indian Idol, was widely popular in Nepal. Many of the Nepali songs he sang gained significant popularity. The 43-year-old was active in both acting and singing in Nepali films.

He made his acting debut in the Nepali film Gorkhapaltan 2, directed by Narayan Rayamajhi. He first worked as a playback singer in the film Himmat 2. Over the years, he acted in films such as Angalo Mayako, Kin Mayama, Dhadkan Bhitra, Nishani, and Pardeshi Parts 1 and 2. As a playback singer, he lent his voice to films including Dil, Anmol Chhan, and Himmat 2.

Tamang also made his Bollywood debut with the Salman Khan–starrer Battle of Galwan. The film’s shooting has been completed, and he was preparing for dubbing.

Born in Darjeeling, India, Prashant Tamang married air hostess Martha Alee in 2011. The couple has a daughter. Before entering the entertainment industry, he also worked for some time as a constable with the Kolkata Police.

His debut album Dhanyabaad was released in 2007. Among his most popular songs are Veer Gorkhali and Asare Mahinama. He had also acted in the popular Nepali television series Tito Satya.

Following the news of his death, social media has been flooded with tributes and messages of condolence from fans and well-wishers.
