Two Injured as Fire Ravages Five Homes in Humla’s Sarkegad

A late-night fire in Rip Village, Sarkegad Rural Municipality–2, left two individuals injured and caused extensive damage to five residential properties, local authorities reported today.

Incident and Casualties

According to local resident Vijay Phadera, the blaze broke out unexpectedly last night at the home of Laiba Phadera before quickly spreading to neighboring houses.

Two residents, identified as Laiba Phadera and Bambu Phadera, sustained injuries while attempting to escape or contain the flames. Both victims were evacuated via ambulance during the night and are currently undergoing treatment at the District Hospital in Simkot. Dr. Umakant Tiwari, Chief of the District Health Office, confirmed that medical teams are monitoring their recovery.

Property Loss and Damage

The fire significantly damaged the homes of five local families, identified as:

  • Laiba Phadera
  • Jayaram Phadera
  • Kranti Phadera
  • Ramesh Mahatara
  • Mohan Mahatara

While the fire was eventually brought under control through the collective efforts of the villagers, an official assessment of the total financial loss is still underway. “We are currently unable to provide an exact estimate of the damages,” Phadera added.

Official Response

Upon receiving reports of the incident, security personnel from the Sarkegad Police Post were immediately dispatched to the site.

Bishnu Shrestha, the Acting Chief of the District Police Office, confirmed that the fire has been completely extinguished. “The situation is now under control, and security forces are assisting with the aftermath,” Shrestha stated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though authorities often cite the dry winter season and open hearths as common risks in the region.
