Two killed in motorcycle–tipper collision in Damak

Two people were killed after a motorcycle collided with a tipper truck in Damak, Jhapa district, on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The accident occurred at Bargachhi in Damak Municipality–1 when a tipper truck bearing registration number Me 1 Kha 2884, traveling from Damak toward Ramchok, was hit by a motorcycle with registration number Pra 1-01-018 Pa 8303, which was heading from Durga Mandir toward Peltimari.

According to Jhapa police spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, the victims have been identified as 22-year-old Pravesh Rai, the motorcycle rider, and 19-year-old Janam Rai, who was riding pillion. Both were residents of Chulachuli Rural Municipality–4 in Ilam district.

The two sustained critical injuries in the crash and were immediately rescued and taken to Damak Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared both of them dead upon arrival, police said.

Following the accident, police took the tipper truck and its driver, 32-year-old Hivaraj Rai of Triyuga Municipality–9, Ratmate, Udayapur district, into custody for further investigation.

Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
