UK Rapper Ghetts Admits Causing Death of Nepali Student Yubin Tamang

Award-winning British rapper Clark Samuel, known as Ghetts, has admitted that he caused the death of a Nepali youth after hitting him with his car in northeast London.

He was driving a BMW when he hit 20-year-old Nepali student Yubin Tamang on 18 October in Ilford, London. After the accident, Ghetts did not stop and fled the scene.

According to police, he was driving at more than 60 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone when he hit Yubin, who was crossing the road.

Yubin was the only son of his parents. He had come to the UK in September last year for higher studies and was studying in the second year of BSc Business Management at the University of Roehampton.

The 41-year-old rapper from Woodford, East London, has accepted that his dangerous driving caused Yubin’s death. He also admitted a second charge related to dangerous driving on the same day.

The accident happened at 11:30 PM on Redbridge Lane, Ilford, when Yubin was crossing the road. He died two days later in the hospital during treatment.

The next morning, police searched Ghetts’ home in Woodford and found his black BMW in a badly damaged condition. The car was registered and insured in his name.

The court said Ghetts will receive his sentence on 12 February. The first charge is causing death by careless driving while over the legal alcohol limit. Police said he had 119 micrograms of alcohol, which is far above the legal limit.

The second charge is for dangerous driving in the Redbridge area, especially around Worcester Crescent, on the same day.

According to the BBC, Ghetts appeared in court through a video link from Pentonville Prison. He is currently in custody, and the judge has said he will face a prison sentence, although the length has not yet been decided.

He has also been banned from driving, but the duration of the ban will be decided later.

At Monday’s hearing at the Old Bailey, Yubin’s parents, Bikash Tamang and Sharmila Magar Tamang, other family members, and representatives from NRNA UK were present.

Several Nepali organisations in the UK are collecting donations to support Yubin’s family.
