Police Apprehend Escaped Inmate in Morang

District Police in Morang arrested an escaped inmate on Friday at the Biratnagar bus park following her flight from the Central Jail in Sundhara. The individual, identified as 42-year-old Sirjana Magar of Katari Municipality-4, Udayapur, was taken into custody without incident.

Ms. Magar had been serving a sentence related to human trafficking charges prior to her escape. She managed to flee the correctional facility on September 9 during the Gen Z protest movement, which created a window of opportunity for her departure from the premises.

Law enforcement officials tracked the suspect to the transportation hub in Biratnagar, where she was spotted by officers on duty. Following her identification, she was immediately detained and transported to the District Police Office for processing.

The authorities are currently making arrangements to transfer Ms. Magar back to the Central Jail in Kathmandu. This arrest concludes a months-long search for the fugitive who had been evading police since the autumn unrest.

Security protocols at central facilities remain under review following several incidents reported during the period of civil demonstrations. The successful apprehension of Ms. Magar reflects the continued coordination between regional police units to secure high-profile escapees.
