Nepal’s men’s cricket team has secured qualification for the Asian Games after results in the Asian Games Men’s Cricket Qualifier tournament in Singapore confirmed its place in the competition.

Nepal qualified for the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, in October, after Malaysia defeated China by nine wickets on Tuesday.

Batting first, China managed only 84 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Malaysia comfortably chased down the target within eight overs, sealing a dominant victory.

The result left Nepal and Malaysia tied on two points each in Group A, while China remained winless after losing both of its matches.

Nepal had opened its campaign with a commanding 221-run victory over China on Sunday, powered by a brilliant 129-run innings from opener Kushal Bhurtel.

Nepal will face Malaysia on Thursday in a match that will determine the Group A winner.

Under the tournament format, the top four teams from the Asian Games Men’s Cricket Qualifier earn places at the Asian Games. In Group B, Hong Kong and Oman began their campaigns with victories over Singapore and Bahrain respectively.

Nepal’s qualification marks another significant achievement for the national side as it prepares to compete on one of Asia’s biggest multi-sport stages later this year in Japan.
