The Nepal Super League (NSL) has launched an expansion process for its fourth season, announcing plans to add three new clubs as it prepares to introduce a home-and-away format for the first time.

According to a statement issued by NSL Chairman Shreyans Karki, the league’s fourth season will begin on 5 September 2026 and feature 10 teams, up from the current seven.

The league has invited applications from individuals, companies, consortiums and football-related organisations interested in operating new franchises. As part of the expansion strategy, NSL has expressed particular interest in receiving bids from the cities of Biratnagar, Dharan, Birgunj and Surkhet. However, proposals from other regions will also be considered.

Previously, Biratnagar City FC participated in the inaugural NSL season, while Birgunj United FC competed only in the league’s second edition.

League officials said the addition of new teams is expected to help expand professional football across Nepal, strengthen ties with local fan bases, encourage club development and create new commercial opportunities.

The NSL stated that detailed information regarding the application process, eligibility criteria and participation requirements will be made available to interested parties.

“The transition to a home-and-away structure is a significant step forward for both the league and Nepali football,” the statement said. “We are excited to welcome new partners who share our vision of building sustainable, community-based football clubs across the country.”

The move marks one of the most ambitious developments in the league’s history as it seeks to establish a stronger nationwide footprint and elevate the professional football landscape in Nepal.
