Work on the long-delayed Gautam Buddha Cricket Stadium has resumed after a temporary halt caused by delays in budget release from the Bagmati Provincial Government.

The construction company had stopped work for about a month, citing non-payment due to delayed budget allocation. According to Bharatpur Metropolitan City engineer Adarsha Pokharel, construction has now restarted after the provincial government released Rs 90 million for the project.

Division engineer Santosh Acharya of the metropolitan city said the contractor has already been paid based on submitted bills.

The stadium is being built by Himalayan Kalinchowk BBR JV. The current contract period is set to expire on Poush 22 (mid-January 2027), while around 55 percent of the work has been completed so far.

The agreement between Bharatpur Metropolitan City and the construction company was signed in Asar 2081 BS for a total cost of Rs 755.09 million, with a completion deadline of Poush 22, 2083 BS.

The project was taken up through a new bidding process after the Dhurmus–Suntsali Foundation was unable to complete the construction earlier, leading the metropolitan city to re-initiate the work through competitive tendering.
