Argentina Advances to Knockout Stage Undefeated

Defending champions Argentina have officially secured their spot in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, maintaining an unbeaten record throughout the group phase.

In their final group stage match held at the Dallas Stadium on Sunday morning, Argentina defeated Jordan with a 3–1 scoreline. Having previously dominated their group, Argentina opened their campaign with a 3–0 victory over Algeria and a 2–0 win against Austria.

Match Highlights

Argentina took an early lead in the 19th minute when Giovani Lo Celso scored from a free-kick. In the 31st minute, Lautaro Martínez extended the lead by converting a penalty.

Jordan attempted a comeback in the 55th minute when Mousa Al-Tamari scored a consolation goal. However, Argentina’s captain, Lionel Messi who entered the pitch in the second half sealed the victory and effectively ended Jordan’s resistance with a clinical goal in the 80th minute.

Group Standings

With this result, Argentina finished at the top of Group ‘J’ with a perfect record, collecting 9 points from three matches. Algeria and Austria followed in second and third place, both with 4 points, successfully advancing to the knockout round, while Jordan finished at the bottom of the table without a point.
