American Fitness Influencer “looksmaxxing” Connor Murphy Dies at 32 After Drowning in Thailand

Connor Murphy, a U.S. bodybuilder and social media personality known for his fitness content and ties to the “looksmaxxing” community, died on July 7 after drowning in a lake in Thailand’s Samut Prakan province, south of Bangkok.

Murphy had been renting a luxury home in the Bang Phli District with his 22-year-old girlfriend for about three months. According to Thai outlets Bangkok Post and Thairath, he began behaving erratically in the hours before his death. Reports say he returned to the residential village by taxi, tried to hire another car to keep driving, and grew agitated when the driver declined. Neighbors called police after witnessing the outburst.

When officers arrived Tuesday afternoon, Murphy reportedly became frantic and fled through the property before jumping into a nearby lake. One police official said he became agitated without warning as they approached; another noted he appeared to be praying at points during the incident. Witnesses said he swam for an extended period before showing signs of exhaustion and going under. Some reports say police held back from entering the water, concerned that his size could pull a rescuer under, though that detail hasn’t been confirmed across all outlets.

Divers with the Poh Teck Tung Foundation searched the lake for roughly 30 minutes before recovering his body approximately 20 meters from shore.

A search of the rented property turned up extensive vandalism — black and yellow paint splashed across furniture, walls, and kitchen appliances. Murphy’s girlfriend told police the damage appeared to have happened overnight while she slept in another room, and that his behavior that day was unlike anything she’d witnessed from him before. She also said she had never seen him use drugs.

Police said they found two unused syringes and several unidentified white pills in a bag inside Murphy’s vehicle, though authorities cautioned that this alone doesn’t establish a cause of death. A post-mortem examination is pending at Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital, and the investigation remains ongoing.

News of Murphy’s death spread quickly among fellow creators, with fitness influencers including Alex Eubank and Greg Doucette posting tributes. Friends and fans described him as a foundational figure in online fitness content who carried more personal struggle than his public persona let on.
