US influencer AYZIA J, 22, dies in New Jersey car crash

A 22-year-old social media influencer has died along with a passenger after the car she was driving crashed on a New Jersey highway at the weekend.

Ayzia Toledo, known online as “AYZIA J”, lost control of her BMW late on Sunday night, causing it to leave the road, overturn and hit a tree in Deptford Township, roughly 12 miles south of Philadelphia.

New Jersey State Police said Toledo veered off the carriageway before the vehicle flipped and struck the tree. She and a front-seat passenger, 22-year-old Henrietta Carter of Darby, Pennsylvania, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third occupant, who was sitting in the back of the car, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. The crash remains under investigation, police said.

Toledo, from the Philadelphia area, had built a substantial online following through beauty, fashion and lifestyle content. She had more than 300,000 followers across her platforms, including around 250,000 on TikTok and 87,000 on Instagram.

Tributes poured in from fans following news of her death. A fundraising page set up in her memory described her as deeply loved by family and admired throughout her community, adding that she had been working towards a promising future.

Second influencer death in the US

Toledo’s death came on the same day that another young content creator was killed in a separate incident in Florida. Brianna Johnson, 21, who posted under the name DreamDoll Brii, was shot while travelling in a Lamborghini SUV in Miramar.

The two deaths have prompted an outpouring of condolences from followers across social media platforms.
