Nepal’s campaign in the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 came to an end after a 2-1 defeat against Bangladesh in the first semi-final held in Goa, India.

At the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Nepal took the lead but were unable to hold on, eventually conceding twice as Bangladesh booked their place in the final.

It marks the second time Nepal have exited the tournament at the semi-final stage, while also extending a difficult run against Bangladesh, having now lost to them in the last three editions of the competition.

Geeta Rana gave Nepal the perfect start with a 22nd-minute goal, putting the team ahead early in the match.

However, Bangladesh responded before half-time. Ritu Porna Chakma scored in first-half stoppage time directly from a corner, producing an Olympic-style goal to level the match at 1-1.

With the game heading towards extra time, Bangladesh struck again deep into second-half stoppage time. Sagorika scored from a cross delivered by Shamsunnahar to seal a dramatic late victory.

The result continues Nepal’s long winless run against Bangladesh, stretching to five years without a victory.

Despite entering the tournament with hopes of winning their first SAFF Women’s Championship title, Nepal’s dream was once again halted at the semi-final stage, continuing their wait for a maiden regional crown.
