Traffic Police Inspector Dies After Truck Collision in Kathmandu

A police inspector serving at the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has died after being seriously injured in a road accident caused by a truck collision.

Inspector Abhay Lama was returning home to Futung in Tarkeshwor on Sunday evening after completing his office duties when the accident occurred. His motorcycle (Ba. Pra. 02-029 Pa 9415) was struck head-on by a truck (Ba. Pra. 03-001 Kha 1715) coming from the opposite direction.

According to police spokesperson Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Lama died on Tuesday afternoon during treatment at B & B Hospital.

He had sustained severe injuries to his head, face, chest, arms, legs, and multiple other parts of his body.

Lama had joined the Nepal Police as a constable in 2015 (2072 BS). He later rose through competitive examinations to become an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and was again promoted to Inspector through open competition. At the time of the incident, he was working at the Human Resource Management Branch of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office in Ramshahpath.

The truck driver involved in the accident, Aitaram Moktan, a 38-year-old resident of Manahari Rural Municipality–5 in Makwanpur, has been taken into police custody along with the vehicle.

Police have launched further investigation into the incident.
