Khotang Man Arrested for Cruel Killing of Dog

In Barahpokhari Rural Municipality of Khotang, a man named Baburam Magar killed a dog in a cruel way by hanging it and beating it. The incident became public after he posted photos of the killing on Facebook.

According to the incident details, Magar’s male dog was mating with a neighbor’s female dog. While trying to separate them, the male dog bit his nephew. Angered, Magar hung the female dog and beat it to death. In his Facebook post, he claimed he killed a community dog, but in his statement to police, he said it was his own dog.

Animal activist Elina Prasai from Biratnagar collected screenshots and photos from Facebook and informed Khotang police. After completing initial paperwork, police extended the investigation under the Animal Offences Act and immediately arrested the accused.

The case was followed up at the police office with the coordination of TFC Nepal founder Tularaj Rajbanshi and Alina Prasai from Alina’s Animal Preservation Center. Police said the accused has been sent to the district court for further investigation.

After the arrest, Alina and Tularam met the accused. During the meeting, he repeatedly apologized, saying he had made a big mistake and promised never to repeat such an act again and instead help care for community dogs.

According to Nepal’s Animal Act, such cruelty can lead to a fine or imprisonment. Activists have demanded strong action, saying this incident has raised awareness about animal rights in Khotang.
