DGO Becomes First Nepali OTT Platform to Receive Government License

DGO has become Nepal’s first Over-The-Top (OTT) platform to receive an official operating license from the government.

According to the Department of Information and Broadcasting, DGO, operated by DishHome Digital Pvt. Ltd., was granted its license on Monday after completing all required legal and administrative procedures.

The platform reportedly paid a licensing fee of Rs. 10 million and fulfilled the necessary regulatory requirements before receiving the permit. Net TV Pvt. Ltd. and Ncell have also applied for OTT licenses and are awaiting approval.

The government recently amended the National Broadcasting Regulations and published the revised provisions in the Nepal Gazette as part of its efforts to bring OTT services under a formal legal framework.

DGO is currently streaming the FIFA World Cup 2026 live in Nepal, making it one of the country’s leading digital entertainment platforms. In addition to live sports, the service offers a wide range of content, including movies, web series, television programs, live channels, documentaries, and other on-demand digital entertainment.

The licensing of DGO marks a major milestone for Nepal’s digital streaming industry and represents a significant step toward regulating and formalizing the country’s growing OTT market.
