Former president of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Karma Tshering Sherpa, has been arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on charges of fraud and criminal breach of trust.

According to police, Sherpa was taken into custody over allegations of embezzling Rs 87.83 million while serving as the executive head of the Tunggram International Academy operating in Hattigauda. He is accused of illegally benefiting from the misuse of school funds and causing significant financial damage to the institution.

Investigators say Sherpa allegedly used various fraudulent schemes to gain personal benefit while holding a key managerial position at the school. He is also accused of exerting undue influence, fear, and pressure to transfer 29 ropani and 4 aana of land located in Dadhikot, Bhaktapur, into the ownership of a company linked to him, thereby causing financial loss to the institution.

Further allegations state that funds allocated for purchasing vehicles for the school were instead used to acquire land and vehicles under companies associated with him, effectively diverting school assets for personal and affiliated business gain.

A complaint had been filed with the CIB accusing Sherpa of fraud and criminal breach of trust for misappropriating school funds. Although the complaint was submitted around two years ago, police had initially not registered the case. Following a court order directing authorities to proceed with the investigation, the CIB has now moved forward with the case and arrested him.

Sherpa, who is affiliated with the Nepali Congress, is currently under investigation as authorities continue to examine the alleged financial irregularities.
