Mixed weather expected across Nepal with rain and snowfall in some regions

A partial influence of westerly winds combined with local atmospheric systems is currently affecting weather conditions across Nepal, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The impact has led to generally cloudy conditions in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as across most high-altitude regions of the country. Elsewhere, hilly areas are seeing partly cloudy skies, while the Terai region remains largely clear.

Forecasters say that on Saturday afternoon, skies will remain generally cloudy in the mountainous regions nationwide, including the hills and highlands of Koshi Province. Partly cloudy conditions are expected in other hilly areas and parts of the Terai in Koshi Province.

There is a likelihood of light rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in some mountainous areas of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Gusty winds are also forecast in parts of the Terai in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.

During the night, similar conditions are expected to persist, with generally cloudy skies in mountainous areas, partly cloudy weather in the hills, and mainly clear conditions in the Terai. Isolated areas in the mountainous regions of Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, as well as one or two places in the hilly regions of Koshi and Gandaki, may experience light rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning.

The department has urged the public, particularly those in areas at risk of rainfall and snowfall, as well as transport operators, to remain cautious.
