Safari Driver Killed in Sunsari: Police Say Murder Was Planned

Dinesh Kumar Chaudhary from Karmaniya, Ramdhuni-2 in Sunsari used to drive a city safari. He was also known as a dhami (traditional healer), which he did part-time.

On the evening of Ashoj 25, around 5:30 PM, he was driving his city safari on the inner road near the Shivnagar–Jhumka canal when someone shot and killed him.

After nearly two months of investigation, police concluded that the murder was planned. Police have arrested 7 people, while the main planner and two others are still on the run.

According to police, those arrested are:
– Rajkishor Sah (43) and his brother Nandkishor Sah (40) from Jhumka, Ramdhuni-1
– Ankit Sah (28) from Rajbiraj-16
– Prince Kumar Das (28) from Rajbiraj-9
– Mohammad Ibran Mia (34) from Bhokraha Narsingh-5
– Gyas Mansuri (37) from Dewangunj-4
– Mithlesh Yadav (25) from Dewangunj-5

Police say Rajkishor and Nandkishor were among those who gave the contract for the killing.

Contract Killing Linked to Witchcraft Belief

During the investigation, police found that the murder was linked to beliefs in tantra-mantra and witchcraft. DSP Chandra Khadka from Sunsari Police said the group believed Dinesh’s spiritual practices had harmed their family.

They reportedly gave the shooter an advance of Rs 300,000 for the killing. After the murder, they had agreed to pay another Rs 350,000. Police say more details are yet to come as more people may be involved.

DSP Khadka said, “The victim was a dhami. Around 5–6 years ago, during a dispute, he had threatened to show his powers. After that, the family members of the suspects frequently fell sick. Believing this was because of witchcraft, they gave a contract to kill him.”

The weapon used in the murder has not yet been recovered. Police are searching for the remaining suspects and have started a murder case against the arrested individuals.
