Elon Musk’s Wikipedia Rival Grokipedia Suffers Widespread Outage, Showing ‘Article Not Found’ Errors

Elon Musk-backed AI encyclopedia Grokipedia, launched by xAI as an alternative to Wikipedia, appears to be experiencing a widespread service disruption, with users reporting that articles are unavailable and searches are returning “Article Not Found” errors.

According to checks conducted by Niriv, the issue was first noticed at approximately 2:00 PM Nepal Time (NPT) on Tuesday. During testing, article pages failed to load correctly, while many search requests returned missing content instead of encyclopedia entries. Independent reports and user observations indicate the problem is affecting users globally rather than being limited to a specific region.

Searches Returning Empty Results

Users attempting to access Grokipedia articles have reported encountering:

  • “Article Not Found” messages
  • Failed article loading
  • Empty search results
  • Missing encyclopedia pages

The outage appears to affect both direct article URLs and searches performed through the site’s search function.

No Official Statement Yet

As of publication, neither xAI nor Elon Musk has publicly commented on the disruption or provided an estimated timeframe for restoration.

Without an official status update, it remains unclear whether the issue is caused by server maintenance, a technical fault, or another backend problem.

What is Grokipedia?

Grokipedia is an AI-generated online encyclopedia created by xAI as a competitor to Wikipedia. The platform was introduced as an AI-powered knowledge base designed to provide an alternative approach to online reference content, with articles generated and reviewed using xAI’s Grok models.

Since its launch, the project has attracted significant attention for its AI-generated content and its positioning as a rival to the long-established Wikipedia.

Global Users Affected

Initial observations suggest the outage is affecting users in multiple countries. Visitors attempting to open articles are instead receiving “Article Not Found” errors, indicating the disruption is not isolated to a single location.

Niriv will continue monitoring the situation and update this story once xAI restores the service or releases an official explanation.
