Police Arrest Two Individuals for Cannabis Possession in Makawanpur

Police in Makwanpur arrested two young men on Friday after discovering more than 11 kilograms of cannabis in their possession during a routine security check. The suspects have been identified as 19-year-old Nisan Chepang and 18-year-old Sagar Chepang, both residents of Rapti Municipality-12 in Chitwan.

The arrests occurred at the Ratomate security checkpoint in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-15. Officers intercepted a passenger bus traveling from Chitwan toward Birgunj to conduct a standard inspection of the vehicle and its passengers.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Pushkar Bogati, a spokesperson for the District Police Office, officers discovered 11.13 kilograms of cannabis hidden inside bags carried by the two men. The illegal substance had been wrapped in plastic and concealed to avoid detection.

The suspects are currently in custody as authorities proceed with a formal investigation into the transport of controlled substances. This operation is part of an ongoing effort by regional law enforcement to curb the flow of narcotics through the district.

Data from the District Police Office indicates a significant increase in enforcement activities. In the previous fiscal year, Makwanpur police seized a total of 6,004 kilograms of cannabis and arrested 289 individuals in connection with drug trafficking and distribution offenses.
