Son Arrested for Killing Mother in Bhaktapur

A son allegedly killed his own mother on Friday night in Bhaktapur.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash Jabegu of the Bhaktapur District Police Office, the incident occurred in Terseta, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality–3. A 27-year-old man, Prabin Bhandari, is accused of killing his 50-year-old mother, Sarita Bhandari.

The mother and son, originally from Mithila Municipality–11 in Dhanusha, had been living in a rented room in Terseta. On Friday night, Prabin allegedly attacked his mother with a sharp weapon. Sarita sustained serious injuries and died during treatment at Bhaktapur International Hospital, DSP Jabegu said.

After killing his mother, Bhandari also injured himself by striking his own head with a sharp weapon. Police said he is currently receiving treatment.

Police have stated that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
