Youth Dies After Drowning in Phewa Lake

A 19-year-old man has died after drowning while swimming in Phewa Lake in Pokhara.

The deceased has been identified as Amar Thapa, a resident of Rambazar in Ward No. 15 of Pokhara Metropolitan City. He went missing on Tuesday evening after drowning while swimming in the lake.

Following reports of the incident, a disaster management and rescue team from the Armed Police Force Nepal’s No. 24 Battalion Headquarters in Kalika, Kaski, including trained divers, was dispatched to the scene at around 8:00 p.m.

During the search operation, rescuers located Thapa unconscious at a depth of approximately 25 feet in Phewa Lake at 9:10 p.m. He was immediately pulled from the water and rushed to Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences (Western Regional Hospital) for treatment.

However, doctors pronounced him dead at 9:44 p.m.

According to the Armed Police Force, the diving team recovered the young man after nearly an hour of search efforts. Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
