A man has been arrested after allegedly killing his wife and injuring their eight-year-old son in a khukuri attack in Bhaktapur, police said.

The incident took place in a rented room behind a Nepal Army barracks on the Chhaling Road in Bhaktapur.

According to police, 38-year-old Bidur Bishwakarma, originally from Nanglebhare in Shankharapur Municipality-6, Kathmandu, allegedly attacked his 33-year-old wife, Salina Tolange Bishwakarma, following a domestic dispute on Thursday morning.

Prakash Jwegu, Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the Bhaktapur District Police Office, said the woman died at the scene after being struck with a khukuri inside their residence near the Kharipati Army Barracks.

The couple’s eight-year-old son, Trishal Bishwakarma, was also injured in the attack and is receiving treatment, police said.

Authorities have taken the suspect into custody and launched an investigation into the incident.
